This educational event will be in partnership with Indiana Landmarks, the Indianapolis City Market, and the Tomlinson Tap Room. The event will start off with a tour of the Indianapolis City Market catacombs. The catacombs are a vast expanse of brick barrel arches and are all that remain of Tomlinson Hall, which burned in 1958 and was torn down by the city. Visitors can see the huge limestone pillars that supported the hall, explore the network of arches, and learn the history of the underground labyrinth. Above the catacombs currently live offices of community development-minded organizations and the Indianapolis City Market. The City Market is a vibrant downtown destination offering a variety of food options and events. After the catacombs tour, the group will proceed to the Indianapolis City Market for a discussion of the Market’s current and future role in Indianapolis’ downtown urban environment from a planning, placemaking, economic, historic, and urban food perspective.
